Commercials Selling Diabetic Supplies During Prime Time

I was watching the Larry King Special tonight with the cast and creators of the Harry Potter series when what did I see during intermission: another commercial selling diabetic supplies. This was during prime time no doubt when commercials are the most expensive. What were the demographics of tonight's audience. Well, Larry King traditionally does well will the older generations but tonight's show included a preview of the latest Harry Potter movie so it no doubt pulled in lots of younger people too. So, I'm going to assume the show was watched by a very large audience with people of all ages watching, i.e. a general audience.

So, why is a company paying prime time rates to advertise their diabetic supplies to a general audience?

Answer: Diabetes has become so widespread among all age groups (even children now!) in the United States, that it's worth the extra advertising dollars to the diabetic supply companies to advertise to a general audience - they know they'll hit a lot of diabetics and the loved ones of diabetics since almost everyone knows someone who has diabetes these days.

So, diabetic supply companies don't even need a "niche" audience anymore to make it worth their advertising dollars because there's enough people in a general audience with diabetes that they can just advertise there.

This is a very sad commentary on the state of our nation. It also says there's BIG money in diabetic supplies. The problem of diabetes has become such an economic engine,  lots of money would be lost if a diabetes cure were widely distributed. In other words, there is no incentive for the pharmaceutical companies to come up with a cure for diabetes. Further, the diabetic supply companies are not anxious for a diabetes cure either.

In fact, you can see why there's little incentive in all of traditional medicine to cure diabetes. It is big business.
