Why Diabetics Should Eat Lots of Shrimp

Shrimp is one of the best food choices a diabetic can make. Here are some of the main reasons why:

Shrimp Has LOTS of Omega 3 (Omega-3 Fatty Acids) and This Is Extremely Important To the Diabetic

Diabetics have damaged cell membranes mostly due to trans fat but also due to other artificial foods. This causes them to become "insulin resistant" which means they don't respond normally or adequately to insulin when it signals to the cell to uptake glucose. Glucose can't get across these damaged membranes at the normal rate, and therefore, glucose (blood sugar) builds up in the bloodstream reaping havoc with your body - it can lead to blindness, amputations, heart disease, emotional issues, and much more.

Repairing these membranes involves eliminating certain things from your diet, especially trans fat which gets subsituted into your cell membranes where the healthy omega 3 molecules should go. This damages your cell membranes and makes them too "stiff." Even if you eliminate trans fat, if you don't get enough omega 3, you won't be able to repair and maintain those damaged cell membranes. Shrimp is one of the very best sources for omega 3.

Shrimp Has the Best Kind of Omega 3 Which All Diabetics Need

There are several different types of omega 3.

First, there is a difference between plant derived omega 3 (ALA) and animal derived omega 3 (DHA and EPA). Humans can not use the plant version (ALA) without first converting it the animal form and we can only convert about 10% of what we eat. The rest is wasted. Also, diabetics and older people convert at an even a lower rate. Therefore, it is best to eat the animal form of omega 3 which we can more easily use.

Second, the omega 3 in shrimp and other crustaceans (a type of arthropod) is attached to a phospholipid molecule. This is exactly what is found in the membranes of humans and is easier for the body to absorb than when the omega 3 is attached to a triglyceride molecule like you find in fish. Therefore, the form of omega 3 in shrimp is better than the form found in fish.

Shrimp Is Very High In Protein, Very Low In Fat, and Contains Virtually No Carb

Each bite of succulent shrimp is packed with protein and hardly any fat. Plus, it has virually no carb. Since diabetics need to lower their carb intake and increase their protein intake, this makes the composition of shrimp meat perfect for the diabetic.

You Don't Need To Worry About the Cholesterol Thing

Shrimp has gotten a very undeserved bad rap regarding cholesterol. Yes, it is true that shrimp meat contains cholesterol but it is extremely low in saturated fat which is actually what raises cholesterol in humans. In fact, eating shrimp actually raises the good cholesterol and does not raise the bad cholesterol.

Shrimp Tastes Great - What a Treat!

Most diabetics have to give up, or at least drastically reduce, many of their favorite foods. However, here's a food that is simply wonderful in taste and is almost always thought of as quite a treat. Therefore, it is simply perfect for the diabetic to eat. Thank you Mother Nature!

You Can Reverse Diabetes and All the Side Effects of Diabetes

You just need to know exactly what foods to eat, what foods to avoid, and you need to learn other very important natural techniques. I totally reversed my diabetes and I no longer need any medication (check out the results of my latest hemoglobin HbA1c test). I can even eat ice cream now without a spike in my blood sugar! I'm healthier now than ever before.

If you haven't already done so, you really need the check out this information about how to reverse diabetes. It is the best source I have found. I simply can't give you everything you need to know in my personal blog. What you really need is a complete guide to curing your diabetes that will tell you every step to take and give you the scientific evidence to back it up.

Why Diabetics Should Choose Blue Corn Chips Over Yellow and White Corn Chips

It's Friday night and we're watching some movies and I'm indulging in one of my favorite "higher carb" treats: blue corn chips and red pepper hummus dip. I wanted to jump online and share with my blog readers why diabetics should always choose blue corn chips over yellow corn chips and white corn chips.

Blue corn chips are much healthier than yellow or white corn chips, especially for type 2 diabetics. This is true for a number of reasons.

First, blue corn chips contain about 20% more protein than their yellow and white counterparts. This means they have less carb and a significantly lower glycemic index. Therefore, blue corn chips do not raise blood sugar as much as other corn chips - eating more protein naturally lowers blood sugar. This of course does not mean you should eat the whole bag but if you are going to indulge in corn chips, choose the blue variety!

Another issue with yellow corn is that such a high percentage of all yellow corn now is genetically modified (between 70% - 90%!!!), and in fact, if you are buying processed foods like chips, then it is closer to 100% genetically modified, aka GMO. However, so far (knock on wood it stays this way) there is no GMO blue corn varieties (really hope they keep it that way). Even if you buy organic yellow corn or organic white corn which by law must not contain GMO foods (in the US), studies have shown that a tiny fraction of these organic crops have now been contaminated with the GMO corn (it mixes in the field - some organic fields that have been tested show as much as 1% GMO!!). Therefore, blue corn is literally the only way to know for sure you are getting zero genetically modified corn. Although we don't have many research studies yet on the effects of GMO, early studies indicate that GMO corn causes insulin resistance and infections. Diabetics should definitely stay away from genetically modified foods (I plan to post more about GMO foods later).

Now, here's the most important reason...

It seems that some people think that blue corn chips are dyed blue but the blue color actually comes from a very healthy antioxidant called anthocyanin (a member of the flavonoid family - and another topic I plan to write more about). Anthocyanin is very well known to strengthen the walls of capillaries and microcapillaries. This makes anthocyanin extremely important to diabetics since high blood sugar damages the tiny blood vessels in the eyes causing retinopathy which can lead to blindness. High blood sugar also damages the smaller vessels in the legs and feet which can lead to very poor circulation and amputation of the extremities. Anthocyanin helps diabetics avoid these particular complications so prevalent in diabetics.

Of course, other foods such as berries like blueberries and blackberries that contain very high levels of anthocyanin are even healthier than blue corn chips, but when you do decide to indulge and eat corn chips, blue corn chips are the healthiest choice. Be sure to get chips that are either baked or cooked in a healthy oil too (remember, canola oil is NOT healthy and in fact is harmful) such as a nut or seed oil. Above all, avoid chips that contain oils that are hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated on the food label because they contain trans fat.

I just can't emphasize enough how important it is for diabetics to have all the information needed to reverse their diabetes laid out for them in a well-organized way - and including the latest scientific research on the subject. Searching around the internet is fine (except there is a lot of incorrect info floating around) and I'm glad you found my blog but I highly recommend you visit this site and watch the video in its entirety. It is the same information that I used to reverse my diabetes and if can see that I have cured my diabetes and my HbA1C tests all come normal now.

Don't Let the Stress of Having Diabetes Make It Worse

When you are first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, the news can be absolutely overwhelming. Many new diabetics actually grieve for their "carefree" life before they were told they had diabetes.  Some even go through the classic stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. It can be a very painful process, and even once you reach the 5th stage of "acceptance," it is reluctantly so and you constantly deal with all sorts of stress when trying to cope with the disease.

I personally believe this painful process is in part due to the way traditional medicine is handling the disease. First, when most people are first informed of the disease, they are told things like you can't really cure diabetes but you can manage it. New patients are given a glucose monitoring kit and instructed how to prick their own finger several times a day to draw blood for the test. They are taught how to use medication to keep their blood sugar within a certain range and they are given some basic instruction on diet that does not even begin to get to the heart of the problem. They are told that their disease will definitely progress and the are told in great detail about all the various complications that can occur from having the diabetes: blindness, limb amputations, heart disease, etc... They are also told that they just lost on average 15 years off a normal lifespan.

With all this bad news, it is no wonder that so many diabetics start out grieving from day one, and even after going through the stages of grief, remain stressed out as they learn how to cope with diabetes in the way traditional medicine tells them to do so. Every day and every few hours they live around what their blood sugar reading is and will be. They worry about how everything they eat will affect their blood sugar. They worry about the inevitable bleak future that has been laid out for them with no hope at all of ever curing their diabetes. In all this stress, their body produces copious amounts of cortisol which exacerbates an already negative situation. This is because cortisol, the stress hormone, makes you even more insulin resistant, and this in turn makes your blood sugar go up even more. It is a vicious circle and I believe it is caused in part by the way traditional medicine presents this disease to patients. In the world of traditional medicine, diabetics are given no hope that they could ever cure their disease and live a normal healthy life. They are in effect sentenced to a low quality life that is almost guaranteed to be cut short.

Curing diabetes naturally takes a completely different approach. You learn how to eliminate stress and reduce cortisol, not increase it. You learn about how to eliminate certain artificial foods produced by the large food manufacturers (like trans fat, GMO foods, and HFCS) from your diet that directly cause your insulin resistance and diabetes and eat better tasting and more healthy food than you have ever eaten before. After curing my diabetes naturally, I actually feel better than I did 15 years before. I'm more energetic, less stressed, more able to cope with problems, and happier than I have been in a very long time. Every time I have my blood sugar tested, I'm even happier when it comes back in the normal range.

My basic message to you is this. Don't let the approach that traditional medicine takes in treating diabetes (and in "counseling" you) bring you down and stress you out because all it will do is make your diabetes worse because it will raise your cortisol levels. Take charge of your own health and commit yourself to curing, not just managing, your diabetes. You may need to really shop around for a new doctor who will work with you to cure your diabetes naturally (you'll find most traditional doctors won't but there are a few exceptions if you really shop around). You also need to be armed with the truth and have a good solid plan in mind on how to cure your diabetes naturally before you shop for a new doctor. To do this, I highly recommend visit this website and watch the video very carefully. It is the same advice I followed to reverse my diabetes and now, even after eating ice cream, my blood sugar stays normal (check out my blood sugar experiment) - which is a sign that I have really cured my diabetes. Good luck to you and please do check out the information I've provided.

My Blood Sugar Experiement - I Really HAVE Cured My Diabetes!

I am really excited about the results of my recent blood sugar experiment and I want to share it with you. I think it is proof positive that I have cured my diabetes. Remember, when I was first diagnosed with diabetes, my readings were really high and I turned that around in only 5 months. (Update: if I knew then what I now know from this scientific research, I would have been able to reverse my diabetes in under a mont.h) I was on diabetes medication at first, even insulin in the hospital, but I am no longer take any diabetes medications and all of my HgA1C tests (a much better indicator than blood sugar overall) come back in the normal range.

One of the true tests of whether or not you've cured your diabetes is to determine if you can occasionally eat a big helping of carbs and not have your blood sugar spike too high. This is a strong indicator that you are not just "managing" your diabetes with a low carb diet but you have actually addressed the underlying cause of the diabetes - i.e. it is NOT just about eating fewer carbs.

Let me explain a bit more before I give you the results of my experiment. A non-diabetic person's blood sugar won't spike more than about 20 points (maybe as much as 25-30 points if they really go over-board) after a really high carb meal or snack because the body's hormonal system is well-tuned to deal with the sudden surge of carbs and it compensates for it. However, when a person who has diabetes eats a lot of carbs in one sitting, their blood sugar can spike 50 points, 100 points, or even more! This is because their illness - their diabetes - has damaged their cell membranes so much and thrown their hormonal system so far out of whack, it simply doesn't have the normal ability to compensate for the surge of extra carbs. In other words, their body does not function properly, and as a result, diabetics can not handle extra carbs without their blood sugar spiking way out of control.

Please note that I am NOT suggesting you should or could over-indulge in carbs all the time after you've cured your diabetes. If you continually do this, in fact, you could over time develop diabetic symptoms again (but probably still not as severe as you may have had before if you stay away from trans fat, high fructose corn syrup, and other artificial and unhealthy foods that cause diabetes) - it's NOT just about carbs I promise.

Okay, now that I have that important caveat out of the way, it is natural (even in the cave man days when they came across a good patch of wild grapes or found a good honey hole) for a human being to eat an occasional meal that contains an extra high count of carbs and a human body that is in good health is designed to handle this. If you have truly cured your diabetes - reversed it completely - you should be able to eat an occasional high carb meal or snack with no ill effects.

Another sign that your body is cured of the ill effects of diabetes is when your blood sugar returns to the state it was originally within 2 hours (approximately) after you eat the high carb meal or snack. In diabetics, their blood sugar often remains very elevated for many hours after eating lots of carbs. This elevated blood sugar is what causes all the complications diabetics usually experience like heart disease, kidney disease, and blindness, and why they are so desperate to lower their blood sugar. Sometimes after the dangerous rise in blood sugar it comes crashing down - a blood sugar roller coaster ride which is really hard on the body.

Last weekend, I put this to the test by treating myself to one of my very favorite high carb indulgences - an extra large helping of vanilla bean ice cream. For the purposes of this experiment, I even allowed myself to eat the whole pint! It was organic and contained no high fructose corn syrup as most ice creams now have (VERY BAD - stay away from this!!). Besides the dairy lactose, the main carb was organic cane sugar. The total carbs in the pint I ate (yes, I was a piggie) were a whopping 84 grams of carbs which I ate over about a 15-20 minute period.

I took my blood sugar before I ate the ice cream (it was mid afternoon about half way between lunch time and dinner time) and then again 15 minutes after I ate the ice cream and then again 2 hours after I ate the ice cream.  There were 3 readings in all.

My blood sugar was 112 before I ate the ice cream. More precisely, it was 112 mg/dl. 15 minutes after I ate the ice cream, it rose a little to 126 mg/dl. After 2 hours, it had come back down almost to the original reading and was at 116 mg/dl.

I am elated with these results and I think my experiment provides proof that I have actually CURED my diabetes, not just "managed" it through a low carb diet (I do eat a lower carb diet than I used to but not extremely low by any means) and other natural means - and remember I am no longer on any kind of prescription diabetes medication - in other words, my body handled the sugary carbs all by itself with no help of any medication!! It is such a good feeling to know that I have truly reversed my diabetes to the point I no longer have significant surges in blood sugar when I occasionally eat a big helping of sugary carbs. And... my blood sugar returns to normal 2 hours later. This is how a healthy person's body responds to a super load of carbs! Someone with diabetes could not handle those sudden 84 carbs without a significant surge in blood sugar (followed by a possible crash in blood glucose). So I am truly cured.

If I can cure my diabetes, so can you! Yippee Ti Yi Yea!!!

If you have diabetes or pre-diabetes, I highly recommend you click on the red button at the top of this page for complete instructions on how to cure diabetes once and for all. Again, if I can do it, so can you!

Commercials Selling Diabetic Supplies During Prime Time

I was watching the Larry King Special tonight with the cast and creators of the Harry Potter series when what did I see during intermission: another commercial selling diabetic supplies. This was during prime time no doubt when commercials are the most expensive. What were the demographics of tonight's audience. Well, Larry King traditionally does well will the older generations but tonight's show included a preview of the latest Harry Potter movie so it no doubt pulled in lots of younger people too. So, I'm going to assume the show was watched by a very large audience with people of all ages watching, i.e. a general audience.

So, why is a company paying prime time rates to advertise their diabetic supplies to a general audience?

Answer: Diabetes has become so widespread among all age groups (even children now!) in the United States, that it's worth the extra advertising dollars to the diabetic supply companies to advertise to a general audience - they know they'll hit a lot of diabetics and the loved ones of diabetics since almost everyone knows someone who has diabetes these days.

So, diabetic supply companies don't even need a "niche" audience anymore to make it worth their advertising dollars because there's enough people in a general audience with diabetes that they can just advertise there.

This is a very sad commentary on the state of our nation. It also says there's BIG money in diabetic supplies. The problem of diabetes has become such an economic engine,  lots of money would be lost if a diabetes cure were widely distributed. In other words, there is no incentive for the pharmaceutical companies to come up with a cure for diabetes. Further, the diabetic supply companies are not anxious for a diabetes cure either.

In fact, you can see why there's little incentive in all of traditional medicine to cure diabetes. It is big business. If you want to reverse diabetes naturally, you will need to seek an alternative approach but you don't just need a tidbit from here and tidbit from there. Here's a place where you can find all the information you need to reverse your diabetes naturally in one concise place. These are the same techniques I used to reverse my diabetes. Watch the entire video because you don't really get into the meat of it until later in the video.

4th of July Day Celebration - A Couple of Simple Suggestions For Diabetics

Happy 4th of July everyone! Hope you and your family and friends have a wonderful 4th!

I wanted to share with you a couple of ideas on how to make your 4th of July food feast a little more friendly to the diabetic - and much healthier for everyone attending.

First, regarding that obligatory potato salad that everyone simple must have on the 4th, why not add more eggs to it to reduce the carb and up the protein! About half and half volume wise makes for some really yummy potato salad, especially if you add fresh herbs like dill, chives, rosemary, and/or basil. In fact, I like it better than just straight potato salad - don't let that protein packed healthy egg take a back seat anymore! You can also leave the peel on the potatoes to increase the fiber and nutrients.

Second, if you simply must have some sweet barbecue sauce on those grilled ribs and chicken, try using locally grown honey instead of sugar (or just organic honey if you can't find locally grown). It has a much lower glycemic index and is much healthier for you. It also will not raise your blood sugar as much as cane or beet sugar will. You can also try adding yacon syrup which is very beneficial to diabetics. Whatever you do, do not eat any sauce that contains high fructose corn syrup. Remember, this is a genetically modified imitation food (it is not a real food) that is known to disrupt the endocrine system (which diabetics and many others struggle with on a constant basis) - and we are only just beginning to understand all the harm that comes from genetically modified organisms.

I recently went down the barbecue isle at the supermarket checking labels and I was appalled at how many of the brands, including the most popular well known brands, contain high fructose corn syrup. You really have to diligent and keep checking those labels and just learn to say NO to anything genetically modified like high fructose corn syrup.

Okay, that's all for now. Have a giggly good time - keep the stress low and the laughter and love flowing! Be sure to click on the big red button and learn all the details about reversing diabetes.
